LAWTON, OK (TNN) - A brand new GPS system is being installed on Lawton Public School buses. Among the benefits, staff will now be able to track their buses during the day, and parents can see where their child’s bus is in real time.
The GPS tracking technology is a first for the district. Come April, you’ll be able to track your child’s bus through the SafeStop App.
“It’s real time," said Trae Koch, LPS’ Transportation Director. “You’ll be able to log in and see where your bus is 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. You don’t have people standing at the bus stop for time they don’t need to be there. It’ll be more efficient for us as a department and it will give parents a piece of mind.”
In August, you’ll be able to track their location down to the minute with the ZPass.
“Each one will have a pass," said Koch. "Each one will be able to step on the bus, scan it, they’ll get an automated time stamp that will be sent text message wise, and parents will get that notification at that time.”
Once those badges are issued, students will want to make sure they are keeping it safe. The first is free, but the second will cost.
“If things are lost, we’ll have to work on replacing those and what to do with students at that time," said Koch. "We won’t turn anyone down from the buses, but we will have a plan in place because those things will happen as the year goes along.”
The GPS system will be installed on 100 route buses and 15 activity buses. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on information regarding parent portal access through SafeStop in the coming weeks.
