LAWTON, OK (TNN) -Bicyclists of every skill level are participating in a weekend of riding and celebration of all things cycling.
Professional cyclists, weekend warriors, and first-time riders met this morning at the Holy City of the Wichitas for the Christiansen Granfondo.
It is a series of biking routes where participants have the option of traveling 22, 36, or 60 miles. The proceeds from the Granfondo go to benefits both the Holy City and The American Cancer Society.
Event coordinator, Lisa Christiansen has a passion for cycling and she said she’s grateful to put this event together.
“To answer what does it mean to me, there’s not even a word for it, it’s just a God thing I feel like. If it makes a small difference, if it gets people out here, it it gets more recognition for the Holy City, if it brings in more donations , that’s my outcome and to watch it grow is a blessing," said Christiansen.
The morning began with prayer and Natalie Gibson sang The National Anthem In Cherokee and English. She said she’s happy to support the cause.
“For me it was really nice knowing that it’s going to here and The American Cancer Society. My granny just passed away, just passed away from cancer, so to be here the week after she passed away is pretty cool to know that this money is going straight to our family kind of," said Gibson.
This is the second time the Granfondo has been held to support the Holy City of the Witchitas.
