MEDICINE PARK, OK (TNN) - Volkswagen enthusiasts from all over the country were in Medicine Park Sunday for the 6th annual V-Dubs in the Park car show.
Over 70 Volkswagens were seen in Medicine Park in just about every color you can think of. Some even repping the no-color, or rust, look. When asked about the VW hype, many owners said the brand has created a special bond between them.
“It’s kind of unique, in that regard," said Larry Wolcott, event coordinator for V-Dubs in the Park. "I guess a lot of people that have different types of cars will have that connection, but with Volkswagens, specifically, for some reason, it just seems like a closer-knit family.”
Jason Mathies and his wife are the owners of a 1971 campmobile that goes by the name “Cecil.” They’ve just traveled 5500 miles across the country, and Medicine Park is the last stop before heading home. Jason said it is nice seeing the same people at different shows.
“It is a real family," said Mathies. "You know, people just love to get together and hang out. The environment is a slow-paced environment.”
Jason and his wife have been coming to V-Dubs in the Park for the last three years, and over time, they have built a bond with the people of Medicine Park.
“It’s a really good group of people, and even the vendors, you know, you come here every year and you get to know people, even some of the vendors. You know, you see them year after year, and you build relationships with those people, too," said Mathies. "The food’s always good. There’s always great food here. So, it’s a really good environment.”
Wolcott said the goal for next year’s V-Dubs in the Park is to have 100 cars in the show. So, you if you have a VW, you can stop by, or even camp out and get to know fellow Volkswagen enthusiasts!
