LAWTON, OK (TNN) -The Lawton Patriot Lions Club does service work year round, but on Saturday they set up outside of Sutherlands to do their part to help those in the Midwest affected by the recent flooding.
“What we’re collecting today is going to the Lions Service Foundation to be distributed for disasters, and this is one of our big service projects,” said Margaret Williams, member of the Lawton Patriot Lions Club.
The Lions are raising money for those affected by flooding in Nebraska, Iowa, and all the way down the Mississippi. The money collected will go to emergency grants to provide things like food, medicine, eye glasses, clothing, things that are lost when there's a natural disaster.
“Friends, neighbors, and other people, because a lot of us have family in the area that’s been affected, and so, to help them,” said Williams.
Williams said she is grateful to the Lawton community for helping fellow Americans during this difficult time.
“Thank you to all the people who support us and come out and donate, because your money is going to help other people that have needs, and not here locally, but in our country," said Williams. "We’re all in this together, and anything we can do to help each other is super.”
