TEMPLE, OK (TNN) - Members of a church in Temple are getting ready to celebrate their church’s 100th anniversary next month.
Church of the Lord Jesus Christ was founded in the year 1919 by Reverend Andrews and rebuilt in 1983. Since then, there have been a total of 20 pastors. Pastor Michael Turner said the church would not be what it is today if it were not for the people.
“It’s the commitment and faithfulness of the people. I’m sure a lot of people in Temple have thought about just up and moving away like many people who go to college, but the Lord saw fit to leave them here and keep the ministry going. There’s a need in this community, we haven’t touched it all, but it’s our desire to try and touch all of it," said Turner.
Many improvements to the outside and inside of the church has been made over the years. An annex building was also built as an entertainment room and dining hall. Pastor Turner said they will have a special banquet to celebrate the 100th anniversary.
“We’re going to bring back former pastors. Pastor Menefee, Pastor Melvin, Pastor Smith who were pastors here, and we’re just going to get together and have a good time on that Friday night sharing old memories and things that have been done in the church," said Turner.
He said they are inviting former members as well to come out and fellowship with them. Pastor Turner said they aim to continue to impact the lives of others.
“We just want to try and make life better for people through God’s word. There’s a better way, and that better way is a life through Jesus Christ and that’s what we try to portray," said Turner.
