Children’s consignment sale helps Lawton area families

LAWTON, OK (TNN) - It's a bargain hunter's dream and it's time once again for the "Just Between Friends" children’s consignment sale in Lawton.

Lawton JBF is a sale of sharing and it helps out new parents in incredible ways.

"You’re going to save 50 to 90% off the retail,” said Dawana Smith, JBF Lawton event coordinator. “You’re not going to use that product for very long at all. For instance, a bassinet. You may only use it for two or three months. So, why pay full price?”

Lawton JBF is more than a weekend garage sale.

“They can drop off the items that they no longer need that are gently used but they can also use that money to help buy tires for their car, pay for braces, summer camps,” said Smith.

Its families helping families with this unique way of recycling a family’s out-grown and gently used children’s items.

“Halloween costumes, you only wear once,” said Smith. “Why not sell it and get a little bit of your money back and then why not buy one at half the cost of a new one?”

The sale carries just about everything you could need for kids and expectant mothers.

“You can find outdoor toys,” said Smith. “You can find rain boots. You can find life jackets, summer clothes, swimsuits. We also have maternity items here at the sale.”

Merchandise is separated into categories which are then organized by gender and size.

Dawana says all items are examined for quality and they are dedicated to keeping their families safe.

“We’re all about safety. We want children to be safe,” said Smith. “We do have a recall specialist that does all of that for all of the Just Between Friends sales. We check for all the recalls if they can be repaired, we let you know how to repair those. You get those repaired and then you’re welcome to sell those at the sale. We also do car seat inspections.”

Even after the sale is over, JBF continues to help local families through their partnership with Cameron Baptist Church Clothes Closet. Consignors have the option to donate their unsold items to help families in need.

“They give them out to the public freely,” said Smith. “So, if you’re a foster parent and needing clothing or something like that you can go to them, also any family in need.”

The sale continues Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Then again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission on Friday and Saturday is $2. The sale wraps up Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
