STERLING, OK (TNN) - Ahead of Sterling High School’s prom happening Friday, students were reminded of the dangers of drinking and driving.
Wednesday, the Police Department and Sterling Public Schools presented a video of a mock drunk driving accident showing a young girl being put in the back of an ambulance. Students watched a mock funeral for the girl who was killed and trial for the man responsible. Volunteers from Lawton’s Teen Court also put on a mock trial for the audience.
Chief Mike Barker says it’s senseless to drink and drive and hopes the presentation will open the kids eyes.
“It’d make me feel good if I could save one or two. If I can save more than that, that’s a blessing. It’s all about the kids. I hate to see them in their short lives, I’ve seen too many in their short lives because of alcohol or drugs," said Barker.
Chief Barker says he’s put something like this on every year for the past 14. He says the biggest lesson he wanted the students to take away from this, is to not drink and drive.
