LAWTON, OK (TNN) - The Chairman of the Lawton - Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce says he’s excited for the future of southwest Oklahoma after recent meetings with our nation’s leaders in Washington D.C.
44 business leaders in our community paid for their own trips to meet with congressional leaders.
"We wanted to talk about high tech jobs. We wanted to tell them that Fort Sill is ready to bring in high-tech jobs. That we’re postured for that, we wanted to say that face to face. You can email that, you can tweet it, you can do a lot of ways, but it really matters when you do it face to face. We created the opportunity to do it face to face and an opportunity to meet with those at the Pentagon,” said Chairman of the Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce Albert Johnson Jr.
Johnson said he has one big takeaway from the trip.
"That they’re listening, that they understand we’re ready and they’re ready to do that for us. We’re looking forward for the budget to be approved and for those opportunities. Lawton Fort Sill has the number one priority for the Secretary of the Army. Long range precision fires is the number one priority and that’s at Lawton - Fort Sill. The number five priority for the Chief of Staff of the Army is also at Lawton Fort Sill and that’s air and missile defense so we’re extremely excited for the opportunities that will come to our community,” Johnson said.
Johnson says he’s thankful for our Oklahoma Congressman for giving our local leaders this opportunity.
