LAWTON, OK (TNN) - Lawton is looking a little cleaner after City National Bank employees spent part of their Sunday afternoon picking up litter.
The garbage cleanup efforts were inspired by the viral “TrashTag Challenge”. A handful of City National Bank employees picked up litter in an area around the field just north of the Walmart on Sheridan Road.
For the challenge, the volunteers shared before and after photos of their cleanup success across social media using the hashtag #trashtag.
And now they are challenging you! The bank employees are hoping to inspire other businesses to get involved in the movement and take pride in the community.
“I think everyone can agree that when you see a park or an open space that is green and litter-free, it just does something and feeds your soul a little bit," said Carey Monroe, community relations at National City Bank. "I think all of us want to live in a more beautiful place.”
And of course, there’s an app for that! It’s called Litterati. The mobile app allows users to track their impact as they tag and upload photos of the litter they collect. It’s geared toward making trash pickup a community event.
