Longtime LPD officer dies in Comanche County wreck

COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla. (TNN) - A well-known, longtime member of the Lawton Police Department died in a Monday morning wreck in eastern Comanche County.

According to OHP, C.H. Brazzel was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck near SE 165th and Woodlawn Road around 11 a.m.

Brazzel served as a member of the Lawton Police Department since the 1970s.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Brazzel was traveling northbound on 165th in a truck pulling a trailer when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle struck a fence and ended up in a tree line. People driving by noticed the vehicle and called 911.

The City of Lawton released a statement saying in part, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and close friends of Sgt. Brazzel during this difficult time.”

In that press release, Lawton Police Chief James Smith said, “He helped any way, anyone and anytime he could. He truly was one of the best and most dedicated officers that the Lawton Police Department was privileged to have serve.”

The Lawton Police Department also posted a tribute to Brazzel in form of a photo on their Facebook page.

OHP is continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck.

We will continue to follow this story and update as details are released.
