LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - A Lawtonian has been named the Oklahoma District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The Army brought John Veal, Jr. to Lawton, where he retired in 1995. He worked for Cameron University and the City of Lawton. He also operated the Small Business Development Center in Lawton for two years.
He said his key role is to help find opportunities to make small businesses successful.
“I want people to know who we are whether there’s a pandemic or not,” Veal said. “I want everyone to recognize that we are what it takes to make a small business owner successful. We want to be the first resort and not the last resort.
He transitioned from his role as the deputy director of the Oklahoma U.S. SBA in December. He said he learned a lot in Lawton because it’s a community known for working with small business owners.
By the end of his tenure, he hopes the SBA is the first option for those people.
