LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Officials with the Lawton Community Theater say moving the theater has been a long-time dream of theirs, and it looks like that dream is the road to becoming a reality. This after Lawton City Council voted at their meeting this week to let the theatre lease the old National Guard Armory building off Cache Road.
Chance Harmon, the Executive Director of the Lawton Community Theatre, said one of the reasons they’ve wanted to move is because the building they’re in right now floods. He says the “yes” vote is just the beginning for them. Now, they need to form committees, hire architects, figure out how they can best use the space, and raise money.
“Since we are a community theatre, we kinda want our community involved and see what we’re doing every step of the way,” he said. “That building is wonderful and unusual. I heard a child say the other day he thought it was a spaceship. It just sparks the imagination.”
Harmon said they hope to expand their children’s programming, have field trips to let kids see how a theatre works, hold classes, and host conferences in the new building.
No word on when they hope to have it ready for them to move.
