Medwatch: Day of Giving to benefit CCMH Foundation

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - March is the month of giving at Jersey Mikes, and they’re working to raise money for Comanche County Memorial Hospital’s Foundation. This is the third year 100% of the sales at Jersey Mikes in Lawton have gone to the CCMH Foundation during the third Wednesday in March.

“It’s fantastic,” said Lea Ann Chandler, the Director of the CCMH Foundation. “It’s an honor to be able to be acknowledged and receive funds for such a worthy cause.”

The foundation then uses that money for the Starlight fund. It includes things like the Terry K. Bell Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, labor and delivery, and the hospital’s women’s and children’s services.

“These funds allow us to purchase technology, equipment, capital projects, nurse education, and other things that come down the pipeline that are identified as needs for Comanche County Memorial Hospital,” she said.

Tyrone Muldowney, the owner of Jersey Mike’s in Lawton, Altus, and Wichita Falls, said the day of giving to local charities is something the founder started.

“The Starlight has kinda touched me,” he said. “I felt like that was a good place for my money to go.”

He says they gave over $8,000 in 2019, and he hopes to give even more this year.

“Our goal really is about $10,000,” Muldowney said.

All donations the foundation gets mean a lot - especially after the pandemic forced them to cancel their annual gala last year.

“It’s huge,” Chandler said. “Greatly appreciated, and necessary for us to continue on to be able to support Comanche County Memorial Hospital and the funding needs that we have.”

People can donate at the register all month long, and then all the sales on March 31st go to CCMH’s foundation.

“You’re able to make an additional donation at the register also,” she said. “You can call ahead the day before if you want to order food for your business, employees, or office as a whole. Those sales will be earmarked for the 31st as well.”

While 100% of the sales from the Lawton Jersey Mikes will go to the foundation for the starlight unit, his Altus location will be donating 100% of their sales to the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma.
