Former Altus man faces first-degree murder charges

DENISON, Iowa_A former Altus man is facing first-degree murder charges in Iowa for the deaths of an elderly couple.
Michael Schenk is one of three people being charged in the couple's deaths. The couple was found dead inside a burning building with multiple gun shot wounds. Officials said they were most likely on the property trying to steal scrap metal and the couple interrupted the theft. Court record show Schenk has a felony charge of taking a debit card in Jackson County back in 2008.
Schenk is being held at the Crawford County jail in Denison, Iowa.
