LAWTON, Okla._Lawton Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Deighan informed a large crowd of parents and staff at a meeting Thursday night that Eisenhower Middle School would need to be replaced or closed.

The reason for the meeting is the deteriorating condition of the building. Dr. Deighan says the school is structurally sound now and it is safe for the students and teachers. But he says the conversation needs to begin now to determine which direction they'll take to reach a long-term solution.

"Over the next two board meetings, we'll talk about it. At the Monday night board meeting, we will talk about the building, hear the board members' comments and hopefully get some direction on what to do. During the time between those two board meetings, I suspect we would be very busy trying to figure out what our options are, because once we publicly start talking about it, then we can start digging in and decide what's best for the students," said Dr. Deighan.

He also said there isn't a definite timeline as to when the decision will be made, but admitted that it needs to come as soon as possible.
