ELGIN, OK (KSWO) -A 6-year-old boy in Elgin is recovering after being attacked by two large dogs.

The attack happened around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday on Pebble Trail, which is about one mile southeast of Elgin Public Schools. Several neighborhood children were outside playing when two dogs, owned by someone in that neighborhood, attacked the children.

The family wants to remain anonymous, but they did walk us through what happened and show pictures of the injuries their son sustained.

The family says around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, their son, who was playing with other neighborhood kids down the street, was attacked by two large English boxers. They say when the two dogs came up, they attacked the boy while another girl who was outside tried to fight the dogs off. A third girl ran for help.

The girl who ran for help ran into the home of the boy who was being attacked and got his father, who ran down the street and tried to chase the dogs off. The father says when they chased the dogs away, he noticed his son had suffered several cuts and puncture wounds, mostly on his arms and legs. He wrapping the wounds, applied pressure and called 911. He says Elgin EMS arrived within five minutes and began re-wrapping the wounds before taking the child to Comanche County Memorial Hospital in an ambulance.

While they were at the hospital, he said his son required six stitches before they could finally leave around 12:30 a.m. He says his son cannot really move much right now and is on a lot of antibiotics, but is recovering.

Elgin Police did not want to release a statement about the attack until they talked to the Health Department. They plan on releasing a statement Friday.

Animal Control in Elgin, who will finish collecting statements from everyone involved, will give a full update Friday on any citations being given and what will happen to the dogs.
