DUNCAN, OK (KSWO)-A man was shot on Labor Day in Duncan, now a mother and her teenage son are facing jail time.
"Long story short, it was a drug deal gone wrong," said Detective James Egger, Duncan Police Department.
Detective Egger said the exchange happened on East Elm Avenue.
A man identified as Caleb Whitehead and his girlfriend, Ashia Johnson told police that they had gone to the 14-year-old's home to purchase marijuana.
"Once she gets inside, instead of purchasing it she decides to grab it and take off running," said Egger.
He said the teenager, whose name will not be released because of his age, and his mother, Danielle Shrope, then got into their vehicle and went looking for Whitehead and Johnson.
They found them at the intersection of C Street and Elm Avenue, where the teen opened fire and shot Whitehead in the neck. Whitehead was rushed to the hospital but has since been released.
The teen and his mother Shrope are now in jail.
"We're seeing an increase of crime in young children now," said Egger.
Egger said he hopes the arrests will serve as a warning to other kids.
"We just do what we can to solve the crimes as they come in and hopefully by what we do and what happens to them it deters other kids from committing crimes like this," he said.
Shrope has been charged with child neglect and assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond is set for 250-thousand dollars. The teen was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Both are expected to appear in court at the end of this month.
