Brother offers reward for information in sister's death
LAWTON, Ok (RNN Texoma) - The brother of a Lawton woman who was shot and killed last week is offering $5,000 to whoever comes forward with information that helps police catch her killer. The shooting happened September 9 on Northwest 55th Street. 23-year-old Florence Groene died two days later.
Her brother lives in Missouri but is trying to help in whatever way he can. Terrill Smith is hoping by offering money for information someone will come forward.
"She was sweet to me," Smith said. "That's the only thing I know about her. She was sweet to me."
Gone too soon, especially for Smith and his brothers who had just started to get to know Groene after being separated as kids.
"This is surreal because this is your younger sister," he said. "You don't expect, it and then being away from her for so many years to be reunited and be happy that you're reunited and then to lose that again it's still something that I'm dealing with."
Smith said he and his older brother tried to get Groene to move to Missouri with them when they got reconnected a few years ago, but she wasn't ready to leave Lawton.
"We literally reached out to her again a few months ago and told her to come on, and she said she wished she would've moved up here," Smith said.
Even though she wished she had, she still didn't move.
"And this happens. It's definitely hard to swallow," Smith said. "We want justice for our little sister. I don't know what the circumstances were, how everything happened, but the fact is she is gone now, and we want justice."
He has a plea to whoever knows something.
"Come forward," he said. "Report it. Tell somebody because this stuff just has to stop, and it will be the easiest $5,000 you ever made."
Smith said you can contact him on Facebook or go to the Lawton Police Department, give them information that leads to the arrest, and he'll get the money to you.
You could also be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers if your information leads to an arrest. You can reach them at 580-355-INFO.
