LAWTON-Broken pipes, broken trees, now broken houses--specifically roofs.  The ice is causing big problems for homeowners and builders.  Their roofs are leaking.  But, the problem isn't the roof itself--it's the ice.

It's called ice damming and it's caused when ice builds up along the edges of roofs and backs up under shingles.  When heat from the house rises, the ice begins to melt, but leaks back into the home because it can't escape from underneath the ice.  Roofer Stephen Eschiti says they have received lots of calls from unhappy customers.  He says ice damming can happen in chimneys too.

Homebuilders say the good news is, most water damage is covered under your homeowner's insurance policy.
