UPDATE: Inmate killed at Lawton's Geo Correctional Facility
Lawton_Investigators into the killing of an inmate at Lawton's Geo Correctional Facility have identified him as Darrell Myers, 44. Myers was serving 15 years on a rape conviction. He was found dead in his cell around 9pm Wednesday. Lawton Police detectives say Myers was killed by some sort of blunt force trauma to his head.
Captain Will Hines of the Lawton Police Department says Geo personnel found the victim in his cell, minus his cellmate. Police say that this cellmate is one of the people they are interviewing. "We don't want to point the finger as of yet, although we do have people we are looking at. Right now there still working on a motive," Captain Hines said.
Police say they have been working very closely with Geo personnel and believe this case will be solved quickly since the death happened in a controlled area.
Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massie says this is the first homicide in a Lawton Correctional Facility this year. The last reported homicide was in October of 2006.
