VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV/Gray News) - A man has died after his boat tipped while he was out fishing in Georgia.

Authorities reported they responded to a “possible drowning” Sunday at about 7:30 p.m. According to Valdosta police and fire, two men, who were cousins and both in their 20s, were fishing at Ulmers Pond when their boat tipped over.

During a press conference, authorities said one of the men went missing after the boat tipped. The other was transported to South Georgia Medical Center on Sunday, treated for hypothermia and has since been released, according to Valdosta Fire Chief Brian Boutwell.

A search operation immediately began, Boutwell said, with a helicopter, two drones, divers and three boats. The search operation continued Sunday evening until 1:30 a.m.

The search resumed Monday morning at about 7 a.m., according to Bouwell. His body was found by divers two hours into Monday’s search operation, according to a Valdosta City spokesperson.

Valdosta Fire and Police Departments both extended prayers and condolences to the family and all those involved.
