Community Conversations: Freedom Elementary holds Veterans Day parade

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Freedom Elementary students, including Miss Walden’s third-grade class, are celebrating Veterans Day with a parade, Friday.

Little hands wave flags and big cheers fill the air for the people who serve our country.

At Freedom Elementary, the Veterans Day parade gives students a chance to say thank you. And for some, the person they’re cheering for is Mom or Dad.

“Being able to see them and cheer for them and wave to them, they get so excited,” Assistant Principal Madison Stanley said. “They love that. It just means a lot to them.”

For these students, that gratitude comes with a simple message.

“Because we’re really thankful for everything,” first grader Ava said. “And they do everything.”

Private First Class Troy Tanori has a son who attends Freedom Elementary. He says the celebration also helps children understand the meaning behind the uniform.

“I think it teaches them morals to have respect for the people that have really done something for the country. And overall just teaches them the meaning of what I do daily,” Tanori said.

A lesson in gratitude, shared through cheers, smiles and a school community coming together to honor those who serve.
