Lawton Public schools hold Coffee and Careers event

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Students at Lawton Public Schools got to hear directly from a panel of experts in the fields of business and marketing Friday.

It was part of LPS’s Coffee and Careers event.

Today’s panel included five successful members of the Lawton community. They spoke about certain aspects of their professions including education, training, earning potential, internships and work-based learning opportunities.

Adam McPhail, the Director of Workforce Development for LPS says the district prepares students, starting in middle school for life after graduation and this is one tool at their disposal.

“We’ve got to start giving them ideas of what they want to do early on because we don’t want them making decisions when they’re seniors and they’re graduating,” McPhail said. “Alright I’ve graduated, now what do I want to do? The earlier we can get them involved, the more chances they have to plan for it.

This is the second coffee and careers event of the school year. The first one focused on medical services. McPhail says LPS is hoping to continue holding these panels every nine weeks.
